Does any one know what does PS_HOMEwebserv<Domain>serversPIAcache folder for used for?

On the web servers, images are stored in PS_HOMEwebserv<domain>applicationspeoplesoftPORTAL<site>cache folder.

I am not sure what the other cache folder for.
