Problems posting comments? Print
Written by Abhishek
Friday, 31 March 2006
Just a bit of housekeeping here. A couple of weeks ago I implemented a hack for b2evolution to make users enter a security code when posting comments. I was hoping this would get rid of the tons of comment spam I was receiving. I've recently heard that users occasionally get "Error: You have not entered the correct authorization code".

The only workaround I know of is to exit the comment and re-enter it. I'll try to work on it this weekend, but in the mean time if you have problems just send the comment to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it and I'll manually add it. Be sure to let me know what name and e-mail address you would like me to file it under.

I apologize for the inconvenience.

I believe the problem with the comments is resolved now. Please let me know if you continue to have problems and thanks for your patience!

Hi!! : RDX
Hi Brent,

I have around 12 test/uat instances running and 4 production, most of the test instances are used by minimal users. Also we need a instance to run only long/huge queries. In all these scenario's how best should i configure my prcs/appserv. Also, if i do not have process monitor configured. Is there any other way i can check the performance. Also any changes which you recommend and will optimize the performance of my web/app/database ??

RE: Hi!! : Brent Martin
That's a lot of environments! I'd expect each app server/process scheduler to take at least 1GB even if you make a small configuration. Make sure you have plenty of memory on your servers.

Without getting into the details, I wouldn't worry about starting PSQRYSRV services except on the query server, and I wouldn't worry much about the optional app server services you can start on environments that don't have many users. With 4 production environments I could see multiple app servers for redundancy.

Performance Monitor isn't a bad way to go, but be prepared after you get it all working to write some queries and reports to make it useful for you. The last time I checked it wasn't too friendly out of the box.

But when I want to monitor performance, I generally do it the old fashioned way with scripts that log stats every few minutes. UNIX SAR (or VMSTAT) is a place to start. You might write some scripts to poll your app servers to gather stats on user counts and/or transactions. Weblogic has a nice console that shows thread counts and Java heap usage. Your DBA probably knows how to gather information about waits, SGA, and whatever else DBA's like to look at before they tell you there's nothing wrong with the database.

But montioring the servers won't necessarily tell you what the user is experiencing. Performance monitor is great, but for a quick and dirty solution download BadBoy from badboy.com.au and set up a script to crawl your site on a regular basis. It'll capture timings that you can look at to gage how the user might be faring.

Good luck!

RE: RDXHHH : Brent Martin
1) Weblogic console: There's a good chance it's already running. If I remember right, you can figure out what the port is from your config.xml file. Then enter the server name, the port number. If it asks for a password, I'm thinking it's like administrator/password. operator/password works too.
2) I have a pretty cool script that gets user counts and activity from the app server. But it's at work and I'm at home. I'll try to remember to post it here when I get a minute. I wrote an article about performance testing a while back. It's at http://www.erpassociates.com/peoplesoft-corner-weblog/peopletools/testing-peoplesoft-performance.html.
3) Badboy rocks (at least it's worth way more than you'll pay for it). I'm in the middle of a performance testing effort with everything scripted in BadBoy. But it'll have to be the topic of a future blog article. There's just too much to cover.
4) I like performance monitor and I think it'd be a good idea. It'll give you great info about what's slow so you can be proactive, and when users call and say the system was slow around lunch time, you can drill into what specific pieces were slow and tune them. It's nothing to take on lightly though -- it requires a separate database/app server/web server, and you'll have to configure all of your other environments to use it.

RE: Baba Basha : Brent Martin
Dude, where have you been?! The Go menu hasn't been used since version 8.0. All you'll see under it now is definition security, query manager, and maybe a couple of other items. You won't get any application access through the windows client anymore.

But the good news is that it sounds like you installed it correctly!

RE: Exempting users from password control : Brent Martin
I do that all the time in PeopleTools 8.48.08 without any problems. The only thing I can think of is maybe it's an app server cache issue. You might try clearing cache or changing something on the user profile and re-saving it.

Problem running crystal reports : sohel
Hi Brent Martin
I have installed process shcedular on windows2003 . Peopletolls 8.47/crystal 9 .When I run a sample crystal
report ,it gets errored out . here is the message log . TO me looks like permission issue

Process Request shows status of 'INITIATED' or 'PROCESSING' but no longer running
10 5:17:53PM Report Repository URL is: http s://he1unx140.fhlmc.com:11051/ SchedulerTransfer/HDMO89 (63,6 smilies/cool.gif

Any help will be appreciated

Sounds like you have two problems going on. Initiated or Processing but no longer running means that Crystal ended but the process scheduler didn't expect it. It probably bombed out for one reason or another.

You should be able to find the log files under %PS_HOME%/appserv/prcs//log_output.

Unfortunately distribution manager wasn't able to post the log files to the report repository because of another issue -- possibly with your web server. You might try to get just HTTP file transfer working before you try https.

RE: Need Info PLS : Brent Martin
1. Lock mass users - Try this: Update psoprdefn set acctlock = 1 where (whatever you like here)

2. Log Off or Sign Off users - No easy way to do this for specific users that I know of. Bouncing the web server(s) will log everybody off.

3. Can a PSDBA send system messages to all the users accessing PIA. Nope. Not out of the box anyway. You could do some things with the portal or signin page to make messages appear.

4. Sending system message to an individual user. Look up their e-mail address and send them an e-mail message.

Reports remain in Posting : NeedHelp!!!
Hi Brent,
I have been facing this issue since 10 days now, all of my PSNT's,PSUNX's reports remain in Posting Status until i bounce the process scheduler the report node is set through http logged cases and tried mostly all solution id's in cust connect
The reports does not post physically until the status in PIA is set to posted
My report repository is on PSNT and not on Webserver
Any manual test which can check http transfer from PSNT ---> WEbserver --->> Reportrepository ???
Reports gets successfully posted after bounce PSNT's/Psunx's

re: Reports remain in Posting : Brent Martin
Since this discussion thread is more of a Q&A place, I moved my response to your question to the PeopleSoft Corner Forum at http://www.erpassociates.com/component/option,com_fireboard/Itemid,32/func,showcat/catid,2/. Let's start using the forum instead of this thread since it'll be a more visible place for users who might have similar problems to find things.

Thanks,
Brent
