Some good news came out of Collaborate '06 today.
NASHVILLE, Tenn., COLLABORATE ‘06 25-APR-2006 Speaking to users at Collaborate '06, Oracle President Charles Phillips detailed the company's long-term plans to provide continued enhancements to current Oracle Applications beyond the delivery of Oracle Fusion Applications in 2008.
With "Applications Unlimited" Oracle has announced plans to enhance JD Edwards, Oracle, PeopleSoft and Siebel applications on an on-going basis. Additionally, with this new strategy, Oracle is providing more visibility into product roadmaps, and helping customers derive continual success from their current applications by delivering dedicated, world-class development and support for years to come.
According to ZDNet:
"This is more of a commitment than we've heard in the past from Oracle," said Kevin Buttigieg, an analyst at A.G. Edwards & Sons. "They've said in the past they would extend the period of enhancements, but nothing as open-ended as this."
He added that Oracle may be feeling the pressure from SAP, its archrival, which is trying to lure customers away by raising doubts about Oracle's Fusion, its delivery date and the ease of migration.
