Double Dubs has a new posting about what Oracle Fusion is really all about.
He goes on to say that the middleware that enables this integration is available today.
I think he's right in that the integration aspirations of Oracle Fusion haven't been discussed nearly as much as the effort create a comprehensive frankenstein application. I wonder if the integration story hasn't been as well received because of past poor EAI experiences.
Fusion is not only an attempt at releasing an integrated suite of applications from the Oracle, PS, JDE, and Sieble lines. In fact, thats the least of what Fusion represents. The real goal of Fusion is to present a process integration layer that spans across all your organizations applications, regardless if they are Oracle apps or not.

I agree with Double dubs. I have attended the Oracle BPEL Process manager training class, anf it provides toolset today to integrate all your diverse applications (PeopleSoft, Siebel etc.) It allows easier way to build web services on top of your existing applications and provided areound 200 Adapters to extract data from your legacy applications. Cool product from Oracle

Thanks for picking this up. As I've had discussions with people, I've noticed that everyone keeps talking about and waiting for the "monster app." A next generation monster app will be a great thing. But it pales in comparison to the significance of what Fusion middleware can do from an overall technology perspective.
Oracle really needs to get the word out. It's simply too easy for people to interpret Fusion as a "fusion of applications" they have acquired, rather than a fusion of anything and everything.

I agree that there is a lot of interest in business process integration across all of the applications in the enterprise. This link (http://blogs.zdnet.com/service-oriented/?p=587) discusses BEA's recent acquisition of a BPEL vendor, and This link (http://www.webpronews.com/expe...vices.html) explains the relationship between BPM and Web Services.
I'm sure we'll be hearing more about how Oracle Fusion will faciliate all of this integration. I attended a BPEL Process Manager training class too and agree that it is a very slick tool.
But companies may be reluctant to adopt the Fusion middleware platform until there are real applications to run on it. Let's face it, most companies already purchased something that promises to do the same thing (like SeeBeyond, Tibco, etc.). Giving users the ability to plug Fusion apps into existing PeopleSoft, Siebel, and Oracle installations is nice, but not very compelling. Applications that are operational and in production get very little attention these days unless a C-level exec sees the benefit and champions the project.
I'm afraid that until Oracle's "Monster App" is released, Fusion is just another middleware product in an ocean of middleware products.

Oracle Fusion is buzz word mainly around middleware & applications
To put it in simple words
Fusion Middleware - Anything from Oracle , apart from Database & Apps is Fusion Middleware.
Fusion Applications - Next version of Oracle Apps (EBS, Sieber, Peoplesoft) built using Oracle Fusion Middleware .
