Oracle unveils PeopleSoft version 9 Print
Monday, 26 June 2006
ComputerWorld has an interesting article about PeopleSoft verison 9 which, according to the article, they released today.

Here are some interesting quotes:

The new release is integrated with Oracle's Fusion Middleware, a portfolio of server software that allows applications from different vendors to interoperate. The integration allows better use of other Oracle technologies including XML Publisher, Business Activity Monitoring and Customer Data Hub, the company said.

Oracle said the version 9 release adds features related to corporate governance and compliance, CRM (customer relationship management) improvements for customer service agents and enterprise-level planning. The company also expanded capabilities for areas such as the public sector, health care, financial services, communications and higher education.

Oracle executives recently offered some details of how its various application suites will be merged into the forthcoming Fusion family. Siebel's software, seen as one of the strongest CRM offerings in the industry, will be used as the core and merged with the best functions and design elements donated from Oracle's E-Business Suite, PeopleSoft CRM and JD Edwards CRM.

ZDNet also has an article about PeopleSoft 9:

PeopleSoft 9 is being introduced in phases. The release of Learning Management 9.0 marks the first phase. This module will focus on offering certification and regulatory compliance support.

PeopleSoft Enterprise Performance Management, the next module scheduled for release, is expected to debut later this summer or early fall. Financial and human capital management components are also set to be released by the end of the year.

"There are three themes with PeopleSoft release 9, and they'll be the same themes you'll see in future releases," Wong said.

Those companies investing into Peoplesoft 9 will have to worry about user adoption of the new Oracle Fusion project when it comes out. Now Oracle is selling more than 4 different CRM software products from 4 different CRM software vendors they purchased.

So to think that Oracle fusion project will have the same user interface as the 4 offerings is absurd!

In any enterprise software solution, user adoption is the single most daunting job to accomplish, and without user adoption any CRM solution is obsolete, wither it is Oracle, Siebel, Peoplesoft, JD Edwards, Salesforce.com or Salesboom.com. Those Peoplesoft or otherwise CRM users will have to adopt to a new user interface, processes and features.

Also for those anticipating a great on demand CRM offering by ORACLE, I assure you this will not happen, because it will disrupt Oracle's revenues considerably. Look at SAP on demand offering! They couldve rolled out a much superior product, but they chose not too, simply because they cant afford having the big customers used to paying millions in upfront acquisition costs and consulting services, pay a monthly fee
